There are certain days in this life that are inexplicably magical. Today was one of them for us, and we soaked up the joy along with the sweltering heat and humidity! Perhaps it had something to do with the relief of knowing that we are back on the road to bringing D & K home. Perhaps it was because it was a completely free Saturday to spend together. Perhaps it was just because we were all open to accept the blessings of the day. I don't know, but we are thankful!
Karl and I spent the morning mowing and doing laundry, respectively. Garin played, watched TV and spent a little time working on his alphabet with Elmo on the computer. (Matt, by the way, was nearing the end of an all-night bus trip...fun, fun.) When our electricity went out on what has been the hottest day of the year so far (in the nineties), at least until tomorrow when we expect 98 degrees, we took off to the mall for some lunch and a/c.
I have worn the same tired, sad bathing suit since before Garin was born. I've had no inclination to even consider trying on another suit since then, as my body refuses to regain its pre-pregnancy shape, and I've not been excited about baring it for the world. However, there comes a point, when your suit is faded, snagged and sporting a huge breastmilk stain from two summers ago, that a girl has to bite the bullet or stay away from the beach. I reached that point today. Amazingly, the suit I have been admiring from afar for several months was still on the rack at Macy's this afternoon! There were two left, and one was my size! I tried it on, and (oh my gosh!) it fit! And it looked good!!! And so the miracles began.........
We came home to a cool house, complete with electricity, and began setting up the swimming pool I bought earlier in the week for Garin. I have to say, for $29 it was a steal. It is huge for a kiddie pool, and it has a debris cover that fastens over it so it won't get nasty. Our little electric air pump worked hard, but we finally got it set up, and Garin had a blast in it! Here's a little sample of our fun (Note that he's still winking like crazy.):
We are going to have a talk about different kinds of kissing, I'm afraid. I'm not sure if the babysitter has let him see some questionable programming or if Karl and I need to tone it down in his presence, but yesterday, Garin climbed into my lap, raised his little eyebrows, shut his eyes and laid one on me. Now this wasn't a typical little-boy peck on the lips. Once our lips locked, he started sliding his head to the right, then to the left (all the while with eyes closed and brows up). Then, I kid you not, he opened his lips and started sticking out his tongue! I busted out laughing and laughed until I had tears rolling down my cheeks. Fortunately, he saw the humor too and laughed with me. I don't know where he learned about romantic kissing, but man, he was working it! I seem to remember Matt going through a phase where he wanted to be the man, too. How do you explain this to a two-year-old?!

Too funny about Garin and his kissing. What a great story to tell his future wife. I'm very happy to hear things are getting back on track with K & D; hopefully things will stay on track.
I hear you about the weather! Thank goodness we went to a pool party/picnic on Satruday. Bubby and PPAL were in the pool the ENTIRE time. They finally came out around 8:30; their bedtime is 8 so needless to say they were tired. When we got home at 9:15 they went right down (gotta love those nights).
I have finally let go of trying to figure out when we're going to Russia. I've let go of the reins and begun enjoying the ride. Still sending up prayers that we both go to Russia soon.
Take Care,
Amy
