Midnight Express

Karl got his alert last night the moment the crew became eligible again after the required rest. We had just gotten to sleep good when his cell phone rang. He suspects that his mission has changed from the original plan, as the airport they were flying to wouldn't have been open when they arrived, based on the alert time. He will call when he gets wherever they're going and let me know what's up. A mission change usually also means a change in the expected return date. Of course, as we know, the expected return date is very soft anyway!

I hate when he leaves at night like that. I much prefer an alert anytime from early morning to late afternoon, but bedtime alerts stink. He had such a hard time saying goodbye to Garin yesterday morning that he just let him sleep last night. It keeps getting harder as Garin understands more, holds on to Karl tighter and waves bye-bye at him. It tugs at the old heart strings even more.

I have bowling this morning and plan to devote Garin's naptime to studying. Other than that, I don't have any big plans today, thankfully!
