Great Date Night!

Yesterday was another busy day, but it was incredible to get some new information on our Russian children! Each time we learn something new, we just soak it up and savor it, looking at it over and over again, trying to memorize it. It is like our little lifeline to them until we can have them here with us.

Last night was our date night at Red Square with Josh and Kim, and Karl and I had a wonderful time! We enjoy their company so much and feel so comfortable with them. We laughed hard and ate way too much. I won't even mention what the bill was! Let's just say that we won't be eating there regularly, but I don't regret doing it for a special treat. If the food we find in Russia is as good as this authentic Russian restaurant, I will come home fat!

The caviar was crazy expensive, but oh my goodness, so delicious!!! I had never tried caviar before, and I'm happy that this was my first experience. From what the other three said, they had not much cared for the salmon roe they had eaten before because it was big and sort of popped in their mouths. We all LOVED the Oscetra and Sevruga that we had last night. It's a bummer that it costs so much! It was served with creme fraiche, blinis and toast points. Oh my word, the blinis were SO good! (Can you tell I enjoyed dinner?)

Josh and I had an appetizer of crab and brie with toast (yummy again!). Karl had borsch (also very tasty). Kim had a blini with smoked salmon, capers and creme fraiche that was, of course, very good too.

For the entree, I had smoked duck breast (tasted almost like really good bacon) with French Foie Gras Roulade, roasted beets, baby greens and beet vinaigrette. Wow is all I can say! Karl had Royal Chicken Kiev. Kim had Pelmeni, and Josh had Beef Stroganoff.

I'm sorry - I realize I've gone on and on about the food. It was just such a special evening: two and a half uninterrupted hours of grownup time, experiencing just a taste of Russia.

It is another gorgeous day! Karl's flight got cancelled today, but he needs to go into the office all weekend to help with the ORI exercise that's taking place this week. I think Garin and I will make a trip to the nursery and pick up some flowers. I hope to mow while he naps and let him help me with some planting later. Have a great Saturday!

You *totally* have to try pilmeni. They're kind of like the dumplings you might find at a Chinese buffet. I could munch on those all day long (provided I had plenty of Mountain Dew to wash 'em down with)!
