GENIUS

In happier news, my highly intelligent two-year-old (and, yes, I'm totally open to the possibility that I'm biased) counted to sixteen yesterday! He has been interested in letters and numbers for awhile and knows the names of many of them, but he hadn't seemed to be understanding the uses of them or the concepts behind them. Until yesterday....

At breakfast, he started counting out of the blue and shocked me when he went all the way from one to ten correctly. I was so proud! He did it again, and I did the happy dance in the kitchen, which he found very comical apparently.

Because Karl was home on crew rest after his mission, we had the whole day together and went to the state park for a picnic, some hiking, playground time and an afternoon in the water park. While we were eating lunch in the woods, he took a sip of his juice box and said, "one." Another sip, and he said, "two." A third sip, and (you guessed it) "three." And on he went until he reached ten. This thrilled me because then I realized it wasn't just a memorized series of words. He was understanding the concept of counting!!!

Then, while we were on the playground, he rattled off the numbers all the way to sixteen. After that, I had to help, but I was, and still am, very proud of him!

He has been counting things all day today too. Who knew he was paying so much attention?

I love being a mom!
